First Flight on Aerostar 40

I went through Swift Current on the long weekend and stopped at my old flying field with the Aerostar 40 I built over the winter. I have a OS LA 46 in it that had not been run yet so I fired it up and ran a tank of fuel through it on the ground alternating between a rich and slighter leaner needle valve setting.
Refilled the tank and set the needle valve on the rich side and taxied out to the runway and opened up the throttle and off it went. It tracked very straight with hardly any input required on the rudder and lifted off cleanly. I got it up to altitude, gave it a few clicks of down elevator to trim it out and flew it around to get the feel of the plane. It is a very nice flying plane, stable with good low speed characteristics. I had a jug of Omega 10% fuel that I bought perhaps 16 years ago and had never been opened to fuel it with. The engine ran flawlessly on it with no problems. It was my first flight this year and only the second one since 1996.
Looking forward to making it out to do some some more flying with this plane and get my somewhat rusty flying skills a bit more refined.

Re: First Flight on Aerostar 40
I have an Aerostar 60 that I won on a raffle believe it or not. I am actually the fourth owner of the plane, and it has become my go-to plane for easy lazy flying or instructing someone. I was fortunate enough to have had an older OS 60 come with it. Really good trainer!
The older I get, the better I used to be!
