Slash is burning Spur Gears!!!

- Need some help here new to me Slash (2wd) is buring Spur Gears about every 5-6 laps at my local track.

- When I replaced the 1st one, I did it according to the manual, and the same thing happened.
- And so on with the next 2!!

- Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
- The gears line up and mesh well, but like I said, it burns out after about 5 or 6 laps.

- All help is appreciated!

Re: Slash is burning Spur Gears!!!

well ill try to give you some sort of reply to get things rolling. but keep in mind im also kinda new to this. ive been driving a duratrax evader ext2. with some nimh and nicd packs. kinda burned up the original motor and switched to brushless. ive had the car for a few months now and just last night chewed up my first spur gear. my thoughts on this is that i had the slipper way to tight, and coupled with some rough play, reverse and forward etc. doughnuts and some heavy bashing. it just took too much punishment. so maby check your slipper clutch. i was told if you hold you car still from the front and when given "gas" the slipper should just barely catch. but who knows. im out to buy a metal spur today and hope it can take the abuse im sure to apply to it.

Re: Slash is burning Spur Gears!!!

It's either rocks getting inside your gear cover or more likely, you're probably setting the gear mesh too tight. There's not much else that will wreck a spur gear other than those two things.

I found that setting it according to the manual made it too tight so when setting mine I use a small strip of printer paper folded over (so that the paper going through the gears is double thick) and always roll the gears back and forth a few times (try and get a complete rotation of the spur gear to ensure the mesh is set for the "biggest" portion of the spur, which might not be perfectly round) with the paper in before locking it down. The paper should come out crinkled but not torn.

Have you tried asking other guys/girls at the track?
