Turbo Otter (Single Engine) ARF ?

Has anyone seen a single engine Turbo Otter arf plane anywhere ? Preferrably 60-90 size (to be electric powered but can convert a glow version). Hanger 9's twin is nice but too expensive after you factor in the dual power systems and floats I would need.

Hi ; The only Otter kits I know of are by Unionville Hobbies & Sea Commander.

Both are standard Otters so you would have to kit bash them.

The Unionville kits are avail;able from Great Hobbies and the other from www.seacommander.com in B.C.

is the Wiki reference. Had to look up deHavilland AIrcraft to find the single-engined Otter.

Looks to be the same fuselage as the Twin Otter (better check large images and 3-views to be safe). In which case, buying a fuselage kit from one of the ARF manufacturers might be an option.

Re: Turbo Otter (Single Engine) ARF ?

The only 1-1 scale Turbo Otters are conversions from the original piston powered airframes. Several engines are used; Garret, Walter, Pratt PT-6s to name a few.

Re: Turbo Otter (Single Engine) ARF ?

Hi all... I wrench Full Scale -3 and -6's for a living and the Fuse is not really the same on the turbo otter and the twin... same overall shape in the cargo area but much different front and back.. the wings are close to the same airfoil and chord but even the wings are very different...

Roscoe is very right... all are converted piston otters...ours have pt6's and a very long engine mounts and lots of ballast and wasted space...

Re: Turbo Otter (Single Engine) ARF ?

I just got a hold of an 8' unionville Otter, mostly built. I'm thinking of turning it into a "turbine swine", which would work best with an electric motor...maybe once there's an in flight adjustable pitch prop, including reverse on the market! But this is project # 236 in my life right now......

Re: Turbo Otter (Single Engine) ARF ?

the unionville kits are "scale-ish", and I guess you could bash one into a "Sharp-nose" Otter. The Twin Otter tail is a squared off vert fin and rudder, and the Otter tails are big rounded ones.

I test flew a unionville Turbo Beaver for a fellow here and it used a RCV 1.20 rotating cyl engine, it ran fine, and fit in the turboprop cowl nicly, and had a sound all it's own

A variable pitch prop would be cool though...nice feature on a float plane
