Barry's Bay and Zurakowski Park

Thos of us who are Arrow junkies/groupies/fanatics all know that Jan Zurakowski retired from Avro Canada and went to own a resort in the Barry's Bay area (Highway 60 about 155 km east of Huntsville). This is right in the Polish settlements in the area.

Zoom in until you reach StreetView and you'll see the park, right in the center of the town.

If you're going to Algonquin, this is a place to take a break. Try the Barry's Bay Dairy and Restaurant just two blocks to the west on the south-bound street.

One of the largest Arrow models that I've seen -- talking about 1/3rd or so.

One of the recent additions is the big gazebo so you ahve some shade as well as pylons covering his history and the aircraft that he flew in Poland, Britain and Canada. All are good subjects for scale.

Re: Barry's Bay and Zurakowski Park

All of that in Barry's Bay. Who ever would have thought. Agree on the Dairy Bar, it was always worth the stop. I worked in the Bay a long time ago as one of the crew who installed the "new" DIAL telephone office. Most of the locals weren't impressed & wanted to keep their crank phones. I can also say I've seen the Arrow fly, and many times because my father was transferred to Downsview in 57 and the Arrow was a regular site that summer. When the project was scrapped several of my friend's parents lost their jobs, which I also remember all too well.

Re: Barry's Bay and Zurakowski Park

Seeing the location of the park (corner of a y-junction just as you come into the main business section from the east) when you're expecting it is something, let alone when you're not ready for it.

I fell in somewhere in the middle. Going just fast enough to not to be able to slow down and enjoy the view, but after lunch at the Dairy, had lots of time to walk around and take pictures. Good time to learn what my new Blackberry seems to be capable of (not as good as my old Fuji FinePix camera but can take snaps pretty well.)
