I have used all the above.

Regular glue
Hotmelt glue
Gorllla Glue
Double sided tape.

My preferred method is hotmelt glue (Glue Gun) followed by Gorlla Glue as my second best option

Cured on masking tape can be removed by wetting it with Varsol & then letting it soak that in to soften the glue. The new greenish (used in automotive masking) is much slower to get off than the old stuff was, but it still works. The "Fine Line" masking tape works well at preventing bleed under edges & it's primary purpose is to mask off tricky shapes which is why it stretches easier. Pinstriping tape can also be used to do it.
