Ejets Int & Eflite Hawk maiden

Ya Nice is how my Eflite Hawk flew yesterday. I had won a Efite Hawk last year at Ohio's Ejets Int event and really wanted to fly said prize at this years event! I did a lot of reading on RCGroups on the Hawk and followed alot of the mods and set ups as posted.

I put the foam deflector under the tail pipe
I set my ailerons on low rates with 50% expo
I set elevator at high rates with 50% expo
I set nose wheel to very small movement
I set the landing mode ailerons up 1/16" elevator down 1/16"

I flew on 4S Rino 2230

I got out to the field and dang it started to rain. I made sure my battery was fully charged and I thought the rain was going off just spitting I'll just do some taxi test. Well it tracked oh so straight and it was moving nicely I pulled a bit of elevator and it rotated and lifted off and climbed out with authority. Nice! I did about 4-6 laps of the field no trim required looks like C of G was bang on and then it started raining hard - Dang I better land it took another 2-3 laps to get use to the fact how this model won't slow down - I forgot about the landing mode switch but landed and rolled to the end of the runway till it ran off into the grass it hopped up slightly and landed again. The nose wheel was slightly bent.

I dried the model and went home with a big smile

I think the ailerons on low rates is plenty and will remove the high rates and I may get some air into the battery area as the pack was a bit warm after the flight.

So next Wed I'll be in Ohio flying and shooting lots of photo's for Electric Flight magazine sister mag too MAN. Keep an eye on my MAN Blog for daily photo's and news.

Re: Ejets Int & Eflite Hawk maiden

The E-flite Hawk does fly great doesn't it Ken,
don't be afraid to mod the crap out of it, I had closed out the turtle deck with 6mm depron as well as over the 2 spars inside, put some tiny air retracts in,cut a rudder in and put a gyro on ch 4 as well.
Plus with the HET gear i used for power, it flew great on a 5cell also.

Re: Ejets Int & Eflite Hawk maiden

Mine will arrive next week. I was wondering if 4S 3000 would be too heavy?

Re: Ejets Int & Eflite Hawk maiden

I'm hoping to maiden mine next week. What is the tailpipe deflector mod all about?
BTW, I put the HK pneumatic micro retracts on it and they seem to work extremely well. Unfortunately, the wheels don't completely fit inside the wing and in order to have the mains retract properly, I had to turn the struts so that the wheels stick out about halfway out of the wells. I'm hoping that shouldn't kill too much speed though.
