Now I know xv-townboy will know what this is. I bought the one he had and got very interested in the one I bought. The couple times I flew it (hovered) it sounded quite different than my T-Rex 450.

Anyway if anyone is interested I started a blog on it and building a new one, which has much more info about the project.

One picture to show the new frames that I have just cut for the new one, which will be all belt drive but quite different from the Hoss, guess I should rename it.

Re: Hoss Helicopter

That looks cool. Would love to see some build info, especially regarding the belt drive, (you run it off a standard pinion?) and see how it all goes together.

As for a name, how about "Boss Hog"? Have a few others, such as "Terminator" due to the mech chassis, or "Borg", but those may be too different from the original. Perhaps you should hold a contest?

I codesigned a 380 class machine a couple of years ago with a gentleman in Portugal and he sent me some laser cut alloy frames. Built up fine, but for some reason I could never get rid of a vertical tail hop resonance, even with different head speeds.
I know there's money in aviation........I put it there!

Re: Hoss Helicopter

Well after a long time, finally found the time to finish up my belt drive. Gave it a quick test hover.

First thing I noticed after watching the video was the head speed seems very high. Funny that while putting it into a hover I never noticed it, to busy trying to hover.. Think I need to change motors to slow it down since it is runing the lowest count pinon for that style of belt.

I think it needs a new head, so have a FBL that will be installed along with the system from RCHeli, ÁRondo Flybarless System.

Since I can't figure out how to put the video in here, this is the link to it.
