Had a great afternoon sunday flying foamies at the gym with Gaston, Brendan, Kent and the boyz Took a few flights before it all came back...glad it was Brendan's plane..we smacked her good!

Tonight I glue on the top deck and cut out the stabs and elevators. Brendan and I stuck the cowl on yesterday...boy is this one long plane!

We did that last night...lots of fun. I think we all suffered from slow thumbs for a while though...

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

stuck at work so no building tonight...dang! I got the elevator and h. stabs ready to bevel and the deck is ready to blend in to the fuse. Tomorrow I will also finish up the rudder and cut out the ailerons.
By the end of the weekend the majority of the build should be done and maybe start covering in two weeks...one week ahaead of schedule..yeehaw!

Starting to look at servo options...may wait for the SBus version of the BLS157!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

Got the elevators all hinged up and working on finishing up the rudder. Took a little longer than expected what with all the end capping etc. Did the bevels the old fashioned way but will try Trev's setup once I see the pics for the wings. Lots of elevator throw! Pics tonight.

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

Lee.. do you plan on using this Monster for Freestyle also??

Sorry - pictures and details coming soon about the bandsaw-bevelling method... I got too carried away in the w-shop last night and lost track of time

Cheers

Trev

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

No Trev, this is strictly an IMAC monster...precision flying all the way! As such throws will be on the order of 9 to 18 degrees depending on surface and links will be shorter (probably 1.5 inch arms). Still want top servos but more for smoothness and fine resolution than brute deflections!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

My Aeroworks Extra 260 will be my freestyle plane but I need a better motor, maybe a DLE 111, rather than my trusty but gutless ZDZ 100NG.

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

So far, I've only built planes where we wanted to have the capability to 3D them and I noticed you mentioned that you bevelled your surfaces to the max with big deflections.

Was that just for resale / future flexibility or is there a performance advantage to doing max bevels?? I guess there's a small weight savings (like a couple ounces on all the bevels).

I've always wondered if a plane was solely dedicated to IMAC, whether a plane with less bevels (smoother airflow??) would fly more precise???

What do you think???

Cheers

Trev

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee

Hey Trev, I'd rather have enough bevel to at least go to 35 degrees especially on rudder and aileron since I often use a more responsive setting for taxi, landing and takeoffs especially in windy conditions. Not sure one would notice much difference between wider and narrow bevels in the air, since the flow should be fairly laminar over the surfaces if they are sealed which all of mine are.

Sounds like a question for Kurt Koelling on FG
