Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee
Yeah, that's about how I've done it in the past. It was only minus 24 this morning...crispy!
On a side note my little hot pencil was taking too long to cut out the ailerons, so I got out my hot wire bow and used the shorter one which is twenty inches wide and zipped through that sucker in record time. Nothing like a big tool!!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee
No pics but got the canopy frame mostly done and will have the foam decks glued on tonight once I hot wire the extra foam off. Also figuring out how i want to bling up the inside since everything is visible Lots of little niggly sanding to get the recess for the canopy right. Cant wait to get the major stuff done and start covering!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee
Trev, did you glass the entire hatch or just around the canopy? I'm tempted to just glass in around the canopy front and use a combo paint and covering to finish it out.

Quote:
1) Glass the wood part of the hatch and overlap the 0.5oz cloth onto the plastic canopy by 1/4" and then paint 2) No glassing at all and cover the entire hatch/canopy as one piece... both Monokote and Ultracote stick exceptionally well to the plastic canopy and the trick is to just moderate the heat with the iron so as not to deform the canopy!! I've also seen a Monokoted hatch sanded with scotchbrite, painted and cleared with years of trouble free flying!! Cheers Trevor |

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee
Hatch construction. First pic shows the tabs that I made from the supplied 1/8 ply and added a 1/8 light ply doubler where the blind nuts go. Second is of the tabs glued and pinned to the rails.
Once the rails where done I added the cross pieces to tie the structure together on the fuse and did measuring for the foam decks. I needed to add a front and back balsa cap on the larger foam deck but first needed to hot wire excess foam out. You can see the balsa edge on the outside of the basswood and balsa laminated rails...talk about bullet proof!

Re: Carden PRO Built by Lee
Cont'd
My trusty hot wire box and short bow that I've been using for twenty or more years. The foam is removed and then the balsa caps are glued on. Note the recessing of the rear deck and the sides of the rails for the canopy...lots of trial fitting, sanding etc and still more to come.
