Ok the fuse is all framed up! Took some creative license with the 3/8" balsa and added a little more bracing, as well as beefed up the anti-rotation mounts and wing tube. As well I drilled small holes (1/16th inch) holes in areas that needed reinforcement and inserted CF rod (black dots in the pictures). Hopefully all of this extra weight does not add too much weight? I am hoping to make up for the extra weight by taking out some materials in other areas, like the rudder and elevators.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

I spent some time scarfing some of the 3/32" balsa together so it would be reading for tomorrow.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

Took the 3/32" balsa that I glued up and made it one with the fuse. It is amazing how this little bit of balsa can add so much rigidity to the fuse. Turned out great, straight as an arrow. Really helps that I spent so much time making sure the build table was perfect.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

I finished sheeting the framed up section of the fuse. Went together really well, straight and ridged. Looking to mount the tail wheel and the main landing gear that I just got back from being powder coated.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

Spent some time installing the landing gear. The J & J wheel mounted very easily and looks great. I spent applying some carbon fiber cloth with West Epoxy to motor box, I am hoping that it will tie everything together and firm it up.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

Here are the finished pics of the motor box with CF cloth and West Epoxy. Unbelievable how strong this has made the entire front of the airframe.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

Well back at it. Here are some pics of the fuse after the CF cloth and West Epoxy as well as a coat of spackle paint. I put on the PSP Aluminum hub wheels and Aluminum axils.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

As well I started the long and tedious task of preparing the 1/16" balsa for sheeting all of the foam. I spent A LOT of time making sure each edge was straight. I built a 60" jig out of 1" aluminum angle to ensure each edge is straight. After I was sure each edge was straight I used masking tape and thin CA to construct the larger sheets for sheeting the foam.

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

I was working on the sheeting and noticed my son playing with his trainer. He has already developed "Prop Envy" I don't think the bank account can handle two of us!

Re: 43% Aerotech Edge 540

As I do not have a fancy vacuum press, or the brains to build on, I went with the weight and pressure method. Thank god for the weight room I cleared it out. No need to go for a workout tonight. For the upper turtle deck, canopy hatch and rear access hatch I used poly glue and a lot of weight. This worked really well. There is just a lot of sanding to get rid of the extra dried glue. For the stab and rudder I went the way of 3M 30nf. This works really well! It is very easy to use, just roll it on both surfaces, wait about 20 minutes and then mate the two surfaces. Being a carpenter, I have worked with a lot of laminates. This was no different.
