Wire Size Conversion

I have some plans that call for a variety of piano wire sizes that are referred to as "SWG". I am assuming that this is another way of measuring the diameter of wire. The plans call for 14 SWG, 16 SWG, 18 SWG and 20 SWG. Does anyone know what the equivalent sizes would be in imperial measurement?

Re: Wire Size Conversion

The British use 'Standard Wire Guage" instead of the American standard AWG that we also use .(It may be 'Standard Whitworth Guage' but I don't think so.) There are tables to convert but I can't think of one off-hand to which to link you, sorry. Will look-see though.

Re: Wire Size Conversion

All kinds of conversion tables out there. Most reference the gauge number and provide the equivalent diameter in either SWG or AWG. You simply need to compare the diameters.

14 SWG = 0.0800"
12 AWG = 0.0808"
