I agree with the Brad and Tyler here.

I know that the airframe of a 50cc is a bit more expensive but the rest of the setup is just about the same cost.

The flying caracteristics of a 50cc are far better than a 30cc. The truth in most cases is that the bigger the plane, the better it flies.

If you do your research, you will find out that there are better props, better reviews of 50cc's than 30cc's.

There are tons of choices out there and whether you go with a 30cc or a 50cc, compare their wingspan and wing loadings. Lighter wing loadings make things easier for harriers, hovers etc.

If IMAC is your thing, then a bit heavier wing loading might be the key. I think that the first thing is to define what your flying style is and what you want to do with the plane and take it from there.

Keep us posted on what airplane you are going to go with. There are guys here that are a wealth of knowledge and will point you to the right direction on what setup to go with.

Cheers,

Will

Re: help a newbie pick an airframe

Thanks for all the advice guys it has not fallen on deaf ears. A trip back to then peak models site found me this

http://www.peakmodel.com/index.php?m...oducts_id=1100

Now a 50cc cheaper than a 30 even if I do get dinged on duty I would still be saving the taxes

What do you guys think do I pull the trigger

Re: help a newbie pick an airframe

Looks like a winner to me! That older style they show at the bottom is actually the same as the GH Air one that Great Hobbies had last season. Decent airframe, especially for that price!

I say do it. Probably excellent for your first big plane and not likely to be your last. They're pretty light and I think you'll really like that more than a 30cc.

I'm with them on this. Go bigger then you think you want! Cus you'll want a bigger one after your 4 or 5th flight! Trust me lol. Good luck with the new bird!

Thanks

I'm sure what ever you do pick you love! Good luck and you'll have to bring it up to our new field in orillia and fly next summer!

Re: help a newbie pick an airframe

The Peak Model airplane looks good.

There is another model:

http://airwildhobbies.com/MoreInfo.a...&level=2&id=43

I had this airplane years ago and I flew the $%#@ out of it Actually I sold it a good friend and he still own it. That plane has gone through some rough stuff and still flying strong.

It wasn't too bad. It has a bit less wing surface than the Peak Model Extra and it is 87" instead of 88" (not a biggy) but it flies extremely light. Very little coupling on Knife Edge (both ways) and you RTF is around 15.5 Lbs.

Just some food for thought.

Cheers,

Will

Re: help a newbie pick an airframe

If 3D/Aerobatic flying is the primary objective then IMO nothing is more fun than a lightly wing loaded airframe i.e. lots of wing area/all up weight. 2 ARF's to consider or use as benchmarks are from Extreme Flight and 3D Hobby Shop.

Regards

They make good planes for sure. The EG aircraft planes are just as light, though and 3D very well. I also recently have seen a 50cc Yak 54 from Pilot flying at our local club and it is ridiculously light flying! It slows down to a crawl. You can basically just pull elevator and drop it straight down!

My personal favorite 3D machine so far has been the 110" Yak from Extreme Flight. A buddy of mine lets me fly his and it flies awesome! There's another member at the club with the 50cc version of it and it seems really nice too, although that member doesn't fly 3D, so I haven't had a chance to fly it or see it in 3D.

Re: help a newbie pick an airframe

I definately agree on the PilotRc 50cc Yak. My friend Mark has one.
I love watching that plane fly, it does whatever he wants. It flies so solid and locked in
