I am one of those who got out of my way to give people flight instruction.
You would be quite surprised just how difficult it has been for me to do so.
Why? I can only take an educated guess, but what I've heard from beginners who I have trained, it was always those who already know how to fly. I even put in an ad in MAAC magazine offering FREE flight instruction and only received a couple replies. Even though they only lived 30 miles away, they were told in no uncertain terms by their club's instructors, not to come to me for instruction. I heard the same from beginners on my side of the border.

I've gotten flamed big time from posters on several related forums. I'm using my aircraft and equipment. I offered to travel to other clubs on both sides of the border and was turned down flat by once again, by club instructors and other officers. I had MAAC and AMA insurance at the time, so that shouldn't have been a factor. Some of those clubs didn't even have a scheduled instructional system. I was told by beginners of some clubs they could never find anyone to teach them, yet they were told there would be always someone to give instruction. What's wrong with this picture?

Re: What to do - Someone selling RC lessons

we fly at a local school field and when new flyers show up and are obviously in need of help we go out of our way to teach them what they need to know. Living on the island here in Victoria open space is limited unlike being on the mainland or in the flat lands. I fyou go to the local MAAC field in Saanich 99% of the members will ignore you like the plague. If howerver you show up with MAAC and the greatest plane ever you might have someone talk to you. It seems that a some clubs the members show up set up a plane, maybe go for one flight and are done. We fly for sometimes 4 hours go home recharge and go out again. We try to follow the same safety rules etc and encourage the new flyers to do the same so as not to generate any complaints from nieghbors. Hope some club guys read this thread and realize that new flyers are the future of all clubs. oh, and to the older generation, battery powered planes are the future of rc flying, do not be afraid of them...Happy Holidays to all.

Re: What to do - Someone selling RC lessons

This forum is much better than some others. Why? On other forums I've read where beginners said they were treated very badly at several clubs they visited and were flamed for their comments. They were told that it must have been the begginer's fault he was treated so badly. What? Yep, they said he must have approached the club the wrong way or some such crap.

RCCanada seems to have more civil folks here.
