Re: Savage x 4.6?

you don't need a temp gun but it helps,
you can do the spit test.
1) start your truck and let it idol for about 1 min
2) spit on your finger and wipe it on the heat sink
3) if the spit burns off in 2-3 sec it is a little hot.
4) if it burns off in 4-5 sec the temp should around 120 to 140 and thats fine.
after your break in is done then you can lean it out a bit (2-3 sec is about 200 t0 240)
hope that helps.
if you don't feel this is safe you should get the temp gun.
better safe then blowing a motor.

Re: Savage x 4.6?

A $20 temp gun is a great investment for nitro rc. Even after 5 years of nitro, I still use mine from time to time just to check. For someone new to nitro rc, a temp gun could be the difference between a blown engine (due to a over lean condition) or a perfecly broken in engine that could last a long time.

Re: Savage x 4.6?

Hobbyking sells them and they work well, I have a Duratrax one and the hobbyking one measured the same all the time when compared, and they look like the same quality but better price.

Re: Savage x 4.6?

Other than the rx in a balloon along with the RX you would want to have a spare filter around as if it gets coated in water it will not allow the right amount of air threw for the motor to run correctly.

Clean after you run is a great general rule to follow ( oil bearings etc. )

snow can also be a issue in some cases.
