What are your 3D goals for next season?

I met a few goals of mine this year and I've got some plans for next year.

My 3D goal is to get my rolling harriers and rolling harrier circles more controlled and lower. I would also like to do inside-outside rolling harrier figure-8s and rolling harrier figure-8s with an outside left circle and outside right circle.

I just started getting the hang of them on the sim but I don't see getting them down on the real plane until next summer.

I also want to get good, well-practiced freestyle routine together for the IMAC contests next year. I've done it a couple times but I've never really had any really solid sequences lined up for it.

Those are my current 3D goals, what are yours? There are so many great pilots across the country, I'd love to hear what everyone is striving to achieve! Hearing all those ideas will help us all to make goals to shoot for!

Tyler

Hey Tyler,
Great topic.

For me, this summer was spent getting my rudder input to be second nature.
Not having to think about what i need to input no matter the planes orientation.
I got that pretty good, but still occasionally have to think about it.
The last part of the summer was spent trying to do rollers. I find rolling left a easier than rolling right.
Next summer is continue the rollers and try torque rolls. I can hover, but i loose it in torque rolls.

I'm a lefty roller too. I just started getting my righty rollers better but they still look wonky until I've done a whole pile of them.

My goal for this year was to get the tail into the grass as much as I could. I can hover low and torque roll but I need to practice harriers and steering them around. I can't really steer my harriers around at all.

There's going to be a pile of sim time this winter and a bunch of Pluma flying too. Stick time, stick time, and even more stick time!

Hey Tyler,
steering harriers around is a bit counter intuitive I guess. The trick is to get the plane in a good deep stall, that stabilizes the wings, less rocking. Then it's all rudder for steering and the ailerons just keeping the wings relatively level. Strange thing is, in a tight left harrier turn, you will likely need to have full right aileron in there for a bit!

Thanks for the tip, Don! I guess it's a bit like adding opposite aileron to flatten out a spin. It sounds weird but it works! Just have to trust it.

Trying to figure out knife edge flight in all orientations.

I haven't given up on the season yet. 305 flights since May and still going strong.

Not really 3D but, I would like to be able to breath while flying inverted.
All summer I have been making sure to give er a go at least once a flight.

Soon to start is a counter clockwise knife edge loop, then belly in.

Re: What are your 3D goals for next season?

Well Tyler ...It is not a good thing to blame equipment but my 42% Slick is not really set up for 3D as I need longer servo arms ...this winters project but in the mean time ...since I saw you and Mike enjoying the EF 110" Yak down in the grass ...I have one now too!...I am hoping to be able to get a few chances with what is left in the flying season to drag the tail down the runway like I do with the EF 48" Edge!!!

Next year my goal is to be able to torque roll in a hover down low...This could get expensive but the rush you get doing this can be addictive!!!

Re: What are your 3D goals for next season?

Ahh awesome!! We'll all be doing harrier derby with the big ones by the end of next summer!

My goals? I dunno.. I suppose #1 is to get the tail in the grass while hovering to shut Tyler up After that the rest is gravy.

I might even give it a go before the snow flies just so I don't have to hear about it all winter! :P

Re: What are your 3D goals for next season?

My goal is to fly just like Joe and also Tyler (when he is flying my plane).

My other goal will be to try and start putting more moves together to try and fly a bit of a routine rather than my current total chaos approach.
