Gasoline or Electric

I have a 78" which presently has a 60 two stroke in it and I was looking for information on gasoline engines. What is the smallest gasoline motor which I fit into the cowling of the cub and what are we talkin.g about power. Now the second half of my question I am also considering going electric in this same cub and was wondering what combination motor/esc/bec/batteries would you suggest.

Re: Gasoline or Electric

Hello BigDaddy:

A friend of mine has the Hanger 9 Cub, 80" wingspan, and he used an E-Flight .40 electric motor. He using a five cell, 5000 ma single LiPo and the aircraft flies beautifully; no lack of power. He has recently mounted floats on the plane and will use it for float flying exclusively next year.

Re: Gasoline or Electric

post your current CUB specs (brand, size, model etc) so we can make some informed suggestions for you. Also let us know if you have any lipos that you would be using for the electric set up, this could influence power choices.

Re: Gasoline or Electric

Typical 2 stroke .60 + fuel weighs 25 ounces
Typical 50 size electric +esc+3S5000 Lipo weighs 31 ounces
This plane is too small for a gas engine ..
I would have thought that a plane this size would fly well with a .40 ..
You may be able to put in a smaller electric motor and save a few ounces.
It would help a lot if we knew the reay to fly weight of the model.
