Agree totally. I use my 450's (combination align and clone parts but good gyro and servos..GY401, Hitec 65 MGs) to try new stuff and save the 500's for big aerobatics once I have the moves down. Flew yesterday (35-40 km winds) the 450 is fine, powerful enough to get it 50 feet up and do flips holding it in the wind. I can beat the daylights out of it and parts do wear, but fast and cheap to replace. Never any problem with electronics, flys like its on rails.
Now the 500, sweet. Not much more than a 450, flys three times bigger. Tons of power. The FBL is as stable as a house. But the FB is as stable, just feels more mechanical. I actually prefer it to the 3G for fast flight.
500 FBL 3G
500 ESP FB GY520
450 GY 401
