hi guys,

i'd like to buy a rc sail boat to my father for Christmas. He's approaching his retirement so I'm hoping to get him interested in those kind of things. They live next to a lake so water ain't an issue!

What do you think about those aquacraft ? They seems popular.

or maybe something like this?

anyway, I don't know anything about these so any help will be welcome! I want to buy this in the next few days.

Re: Best rc sailing boat for a beginner

The first link is for a ready to run (sail) package, basically you add batteries for the radio equipment, install the mast and connect the lines (more or less) and you are ready to sail.

The second is a Dumas kit that has to be built and the radio equipment is not included.

I would recommend the first of the two if you are trying to entice someone new to the hobby, unless they are inclined to want to build.

As to the functionality of either, can't help with that, but I would hazard a guess that the first link would be a good choice for a beginner to learn with and if your father-in-law is in to it, he can get in to building after getting hooked! I purchased a sailboat kit around 15 years ago and I still have not got it finished and I have been in the hobby for 28 years.
If only my budget could keep up with my wish list!

hahaha ok thanks! I'll get an almost ready to go kit then, you're right, if I want to hook my father to the hobby I'm better off with something easy!

Google the Nirvana....

You have to mail order it, but Steve at sailsrc is great to deal with, and is the best place to buy (perhaps only?).

I have one and it is RTR (on the water 20 minuites after opening). Sails extermely well, and takes heavy winds in stride, all without any modifications.
