Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Added the gas and oil filler spouts and caps to the area where the full scale fuel tanks is located. The longer one is for the reserve tank, the shorter one beside it is the main tank spout, and the oil filler is on the opposite side. Also added the fuel guage..

Smile Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Just received some Lozengetex from Balsa USA which is the same as Solartex. Its the 4 colour version which is fine with me.They call it standoff scale lozenge but I was plesantly surprised when I seen it.To compare I put it beside some GTM fabric(on the left) which has to be doped on,which was something I wasn't looking forward to.The GTM fabric is 5 colour.I think I'll go with this Lozengetex,I think I can work with this stuff.I may add a wash to darken it a little we'll see...plus I'm looking at a scheme that has 4 colour fabric on its wings

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Steve I think it will be interesting to see what the final weight is using the synthetic fabric rather than the doped material. GTM has reported finished models all over 20Kg in the USA which have been doped all over. In the UK over 20KG the CAA get involved so it's a weight to avoid if possible. I have the GTM 4C fabric for the wings and then for the fuz and tail end I will be using a light aircraft fabric which is lighter than solartex but just as strong. It all gets painted on my chosen scheme so there should be big weight savings there me hopes!

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

I certainly hope so. I am making the top wing split in 2 positions outside the Cabane struts, and the lower wing at the fuselage. While there will be some wood coming out for that there will be much more aluminium and composite going back in! fortunately it's all close to the C/G so its not going to have that much affect I hope.

By the way the guy who made the file for the dials has made a revision so I will be sending you a new file later . . .

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got the gas/oil hood bolted on with Fokker type nuts, also added a fairing over the gas gauge.I made the fairing from a fiberglass wheelpant that I had rather than using the supplied aluminum sheet.Going to start on the cockpit sides...

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got the ammo box mounted and am now working on the metal cockpit sides. These metal sections are all bolted on using Fokker style nuts on 2-56 studs.Working with these metal panels keeps it interesting, its a nice break from working with wood all the time.Got to get at the Spandue's pretty soon...

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got to admit I am not looking forward too much to working on the metal panels. You seem to me taking charge of the task nicely

Found this web site yesterday http://www.vintagewings.ca/VintageNe...Air-force.aspx

Onwards!
