Steve I am pondering that very thing right now. I am building the cockpits main components at the moment and plan on dry fitting them so I can see how everything fits together. When it exists as a 3D object I will be able to get my head around the problem.

Ideally it will be an all dummy setup in the cockpit and the live main cables running under the floor. I have seen some Dawn Patroller's run the cables through eyelets to steer the cables around scale cockpits.

I should have it all finished over the weekend so I can have a closer look. I am holding the painting process off till I resolve this.

Nigel
So the dummy cables run through the scale locations on the fabric baffle then, that makes sense ...one could tie everything together and make it so the dummys are functional ..something to ponder for sure Nigel....

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

The instructions I have suggest it is possible to link them into the real system and I suppose it would be relatively easy to connect a few wires together. The thing is why bother? The cockpit parts look OK but I would not consider them to have the durability to survive regular movement during a flight. If something fails it could jam a functioning cable and we don't want that do we. I will be happy with dummy cables running to a buffer aft of the fabric wall. The thing to work out is the main servo location etc.

At the moment I am thinking of servos forward of the cockpit driving carbon rods to bell cranks behind the fabric wall. Still early days. I am waiting for JB Weld to harden off all the time!!

Hey What do you think about the cockpit braces. I could not get dowel to bend that tightly so I had to resort to a little cloak and mirrors to get the affect of tightly bent steel tube

I agree Nigel; Why bother plus the risk is there for problems. The carbon rods to bellcranks is not a bad idea.Like you say its still early..

Hi Steve.
Any progress/updates lately? Life can be busy I know! I'm trying to balance motorcycling with flying: this crappy weather has sucked for both!

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Well I thought I would just drop a few pictures of my D.VII to freshen up the thread.

I have just got to the point of bashing metal to cover the frame and have most other things covered. The radiator has been drawn up in 3D and SLS printed. This allowed me to make a housing for the flywheel in the radiators frame and reduce the holes to a more scale like appearance. I hope they are not that small the air is prevented from entering the engine bay!

Also, the guns are another 3D printed component drawn up after many hours research. These items have slowed down the build process greatly, but I am back on form now building in the real world.

Later . . . .

Nigel
