Welcome aboard Nigel,I was hoping someone else would start a D-7, and share some ideas on this project.Nigel I think we may need to cut away a bit of the engine, but not much to the point were its very noticeable. Some of the rad will have to be removed also on the backside, again this wont show anyways. The engine is a project in itself haveing over 200 parts to assemble.Glenn says he has my engine ready and is just finishing up the forward aluminum side panels.
Great choice for a subject D-7,lots of artwork on that one eh..feel free to post any progess on your D-7 and post any comments or questions Nigel because I know I'll have some questions.Like for example;are you going to use turnbuckles on your fuse rigging, and if so where are you going to get them. Some make there own .Some use fishing leader line turnbuckles they find locally. Some omit the turnbuckles..

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Got the tail skid cut out and added a coat of Minwax Polyshades which is a stain and a polyurethane. Also added the cockpit arches and turtle deck arch and attachment tabs on the arch.I still have to attach the #2 tab parts. The locating hole on the forward part of the turtledeck doesn't jibe with the plan..
Later when the fuse done I'll give it a coat of water based Varathane.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Steve, nice to see you are like minded. I have not considered what I am doing about the tensioning the wires yet, I will be starting with the fuselage first like you so it will need to be considered early next year.

I am going to make the top wing split in 2 places and the lower wing in 2 to make transportation easier. I will also be looking at making the horizontal stabiliser detachable should there be problems getting it to fit into my car!!

My building boards will be here in the next few weeks and I will then hopefully get building in the new year. I have 2 rooms to decorate before I can start . . . . . I am sure we all know that one!!

I have only done one thing so far and that was to work out a way to make the manufacturers plates for the fuselage. I made an etched brass plate for a friends DR.1 recently and think they look pretty good

I think I will be able to build the engine while the boss is not looking before Christmas, mind you it's difficult as I build in the house and I regularly get "supervised".

Catch you soon.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

The plate was mounted Starboard on the cowl, just above and forward of where the front wheel strut meets the fuselage. I see you have the Anthology series. See Anthology 1 on page 63 where the plan shows the location. Not all aircraft retained the plates in service naturally, but if you look at the 3 views in the Windsock range you will see plenty of examples where Ray has included the plates.

On the DR.I they were mounted on the front cowl. The one in the pic above is mounted as attached to the DR1.

I have been looking at the Fokker aircraft for a year on and off while I wait to get started. Loads of little details to pick up on

Ahh yes I'm spotting them now..also on page 1 and page 54.I have one on my DR-1 that I may copy.It was made by Arizona Aircrafters..its not as nice as yours though Nigel.
Are you going to install a detailed interior Nigel? If so are you getting an interior kit from GTM or are you going to scratch one up?

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

I have all the interior coming to me with the dummy engine. When I got the main kit in October 2010 the interior had not been finalised. I'll see what arrives and then decide on further action. I may make my own plates for the dash etc.
