Steve, I have the same issues with the D.VII I am following. Fokker DVII (OAW) 4649/18 of Jasta 65 tells me something but not everything. I have some actual pictures of my aircraft and still there are differences of opinion.

So without pictures there is nothing to argue over on your subject. Makes it a little harder really. I know the forum "The aerodrome" has many references to your subject and you should read them all making notes. Then sit down and take a while to go through everything, order some books if it will help, but make a decision based on all the information you have. It's all you can do.

I went through some troubles researching the Lozenge colours of the 4 and 5 colour "irregular polygon schemes" as they should be called. There are a number of "Camps" on this subject and to be honest you can't see the wood for the trees half the time. There are so many opinions you have to do your base work yourself and draw your own conclusions.

All good fun.

Nigel

I would not let it put you off the scheme Steve. Why should it!!

If the experts can't agree you have more of a free hand in it.

I took the pictures of the engine this afternoon. Will post shortly.

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

As promised the dummy engine for the D.VII. I have been waiting for the engine to be delivered for some time as Glenn wanted to make some alterations to the design after Top Gun 2011. Anyone familiar with Glenn Torrance kits will recognise the way things are set out.

Almost everything is labelled and the smaller items are in zip bags with their part number. Not shown are the instructions which guide you through the general assembly. Glenn has declared the engine as a good base to further expand the engine if desired. One or two high parts are missing from the engine but should not be a problem when it comes to DIY fabrication.

The large blocks of solid wood form the cylinders which can be hollowed out to add additional ballast if needed. All in all the engine is going to be a nice feature on the front which will add a good deal of "functional weight".

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

I weighed the Dummy engine and its around 4.5 lbs.The Zenoha 62 with the redrive and a 24"prop weighed in at 7.5 lbs. That makes about 12 lbs combined, should be enough nose weight one would think..plus we'll be running a 28" prop so even more..
Am working on the starboard lower wing, pretty straight forward so far..

Hey Nigel;Have you been thinking at all about what you'll use for a muffler.I would like to go with a cannister type.Do you you think that the firewall type cannister that Vogelsang sells would fit? They also have 10.25" spoked wheels and big scale like props..pricey though..could use a less expensive DLE 55 cannister setup although the can would extend into the cockpit area a bit..

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

Steve, I have not considered the exhaust position or type yet. I know a number of DP'ers over here fabricate their own exhaust. I want to get the fuselage together first before I tackle the question. Their accessories are very nice naturally. If they fit and your pockets are deep enough then why not!

I know a guy over here did a system for his engine (can't think what it was) and the sound was much deeper than the standard tinny 2 stroke noise we get from the Zenoah systems. Will have to see when I get there!

What's the D.VII side view. Are you thinking of that scheme??

Re: GTM 1/3 Fokker D-7

No I just threw that in,I think I'll hold off a decision on the exhaust for now, plenty of other things to get done..
