for the new eflite 450 fbl heli coming soon, do you think elfite or microheli will make metal blade grips for it? why would eflite use plastic? And will it be easy to switch out the eflite servos and put the trex servos on the blade fbl heli? and which is better, plastic or metal blade grips? some say plastic allows for more flex in blades, is this good?

Re: flybar heli question

Ok ill try to answer some of your questions.

The reason Eflight used plastic is because of cost i would assume, but that's not a bad thing. The good feature of plastic is when it breaks you know its broken, but with the metal it could bend and you might not be able to see it. That being said metal will last longer but when it does break it will cost a lot more than plastic.

As far a servos go the Blade 450 ones seem to work O.K. from what i have read but if you did want to switch them i can't see it being a big issue.

Re: flybar heli question

While I dont have an eflight 450 in my hand, I am willing to bet the main shaft diameter is common to other 450 main shafts.

If that is the case, then it wont be a problem to get a metal head [grips]from any comparatively dimensioned 450 and adapt it to fit the eflight 450

Re: flybar heli question

Just to clarify are you talking about the 450 flybarred or the soon to be released 450X flybarless? If it's the 450 flybared it shares alot of parts with the old 400 and I would think trex 450 and blade 400 metal head parts should fit with little or no mods required. If you mean the 450X fbl the RJX FBL head for the trex should fit it.

Re: flybar heli question

A benefit of plastic grips is in a crash or blade strike they'll flex or break off, which will help prevent damage to the rest of the head, shaft and main gear.

From a performance perspective flex isn't so good. For a begginer/sport flyer a little flex isn't as big an issue, especially if it can save $ in a crash.

I see that they already have metal grips and other upgrades.

By the time you finish with upgrading servos and other parts to be close to a Trex you'll have spent at least $100 more than just buying a 450 Pro 3GX in the first place.
