So i finally got to Ottawa and picked up some fuel a tank and other controll things.

I hooked up the OS max 40 fp motor I have and with a little twisting of screws it fired up Aw crap it's truning backwords. I started it up again and it was truning ccw...I do not know what I did but it is good now. Well it takes me 5 trys to get it to run in the right direction.

What an I doing wrong?

Anyone know where I can find the proper settings for the carb?

I guess I can start on the boat/hull end of my project.

Re: We have smoke

Your carb is flooding out.
First of all, the fuel tank centerline must not be higher than the carburetor.
The high speed needle valve should be open 1 3/4 turn from closed plus a couple more clicks.
The prop should be a 10 x 7
The battery must be fully charged 1 1/2 volts not more or less.
Also, don't use stale fuel from a buddy that sat all summer in the garage.
Let us know how it goes!

Re: We have smoke

Can you tell us what your setup is? ie: are you using a 10x6/7 prop, running on a test stand.

You must be hand starting if your getting the motor running backwards, you mention boat hull is this for an air boat?
RV-8'ting and loving it!!

Re: We have smoke

I am building an air boat.

The motor is on a test stand ( aka chunk of plywood )

I have a 10 x 6 prop

I just opened the bottle of fuel, I picked it up today. I hope I get the right stuff, the guy that was there did not know much about airplane stuff ( he is the car guy ) I got Champion 15%.

I just came in from trying again and I think I got it now. I found a os max fp 40 manual. I just don't know about the air ?? screw. BUt it seems to be runnig good for now. I will try it tommrow to see how it starts from cold.

Any onfo would be great.

Champion is a good fuel, it has 20% lubricants, Just learn how to tune your engine and you will be fine. Phil

Re: We have smoke

Every glow motor I have ever had runs backwards at some point. No bigee, just stop it and try again. Using an electric starter prevents this... Cheers, John

Re: We have smoke

Nothing is wrong, it's a new engine with good compression, try a harder flip or sometimes they will run the right direction if you flip it backwards!

Or use a starter.

Lower nitro content will help too as will a larger diameter prop! You could also try a cooler plug.

P.S. A good long lean run on low oil content all synthetic fuel will cure it permanently! Just kidding!
Hang time does not apply to ceiling fans, light fixtures, overhead door tracks or basketball nets!
