Prop in front or behind

I am making a air boat and am using a 36cc chainsaw motor.

My question is can I use a puller prop and move it from the flywheel end ( front ) of the motor and run it on the output end of the motor?? So I guess it would be a puller....just from behind the motor..if you know what I mean

Re: Prop in front or behind

Pusher prop is always less efficient due to the fact it is running in disturbed air. On an airboat the speed and efficiency differences will be less than 1 KPH. Three and four blade props make a big difference. Look for a 4" to 6" pitch prop. The design of the prop cage and rudders and engine support can add a lot of drag. Good luck.

A guy who flew them told me that the Cessna 337 had better engine-out performance when the front engine was the dead one. I think it was because the front prop blew a lot of high speed air along the fuselage causing more drag. Hmmm. Tex.
