What size do you guys carry? I'm looking to pick one up, but am unsure what size would be adequate.

Re: Co2 fire extinguishers

I put out a fire of a friend's crash that had a sizable fire. He basically had a full fuel tank. I had a 5 lber and it put out all the fuel that spilled that was burning, plus all the fuselage fire. It did a good job, I think that size will work for you. The worse thing was, either the run all the way over to to the site to put it out or the coughing from all the rotten smoke that came out, as I just about coughed up a lung afterwards. I think there is a fair bit of toxic crap in the plastics and the composite materials we make these things out of, when burnt. I guess what I am trying to say is if you get too big of a bottle it may hamper your trying to get to the crash site, because these things never crash in the easiest place to get at. Just my opinion though.

Re: Co2 fire extinguishers

Alan you comment reminded me of a particular incident. Same issue with the fumes. Also, if someone had not also brought along a water extinguisher, we would have been in serious trouble as the grass around the plane was burning out in a circle pattern that would have been hard to control...

A water extinguisher is on my list of to-gets this year.

Re: Co2 fire extinguishers

Found one at a shop in Tillsonburg. $90 reconditioned 5lb with a fresh charge and hydro test. It was a bit above $150 for a new one. Refill or hydro test are about $16.
