I bought a Golberg Electra from the London swap meet in November (as a Christmas gift for myself) and I just maidened it about a week ago.

It's my first glider, and never flew a glider before, so I don't have any comparison terms for it. All I can say is that I enjoyed it a lot, even at waaay below freezing temperature.

I got it RTF for $65 and it is including:
- airframe
- Master Airscrew folding prop 12/8 and gearbox
- Master Airscrew 650 brushed motor
- Airtronics MA3 brushed ESC and switch
- Cox Sanwa 72 Mhz receiver
- CoX Sanwa 80111 servos

I replaced the receiver with an AR6200 and I had to change the polarity for the servos and ESC(pulled the wires from the servo connector and plugged them in reverse position). These servos and ESC use negative on the middle wire, lucky me I googled it before connecting it.

It looks like the motor can handle 6-7 cell Nimh, so I used a LiPo 2s 5000 mAh from my Rustler - static test 25A WOT

Maiden flight - the 2s 5000 mAh battery lasted about 45-50 minutes, in below freezing temp.

Second time at the field, few days ago, freezing temp, same 2s 5000 mAh
LiPo, I could fly for 55 minutes, climbing about 10 times (one minute each climb). Each time I was climbing until I could not see if the glider was climbing or not anymore (could not distinguish the position).

Longest flight was about 8 minutes, shortest about 3 minutes.

I loved it and I can't wait to fly it again. I am thinking to replace the brushed motor with a brushless, but I don't know if it's worth it.

Re: Goldberg Electra maiden

Sounds like you're having fun,

Brings back good memories of my Electra. I maidened her on a cold Easter morning back in the early '90s. I spent many hours riding the currents over a gully at the back of the field. Alas, she's gone now, sold to another member I never saw again.

Re: Goldberg Electra maiden

I replaced the 550 brick in my electra with a gear driven 400 (himax I think) and put a big prop on it. Much lighter so it handles a bit different, and I 3s 2250 battery. So much lighter than the already mentioned brick and 7 cell nimh I first flew with it. It doesn't handle the wind as well, but on a calm day it seems to fly forever.

My son and I just flew our radian pro on Christmas day (-5) and yesterday (-17) with no troubles. Cold air sure flies nice. We also tried a micro parkzone, but the small 1s batteries didn't like -17 at all.

Enjoy the's a nice relaxing ride.
