Yeah, we never INTENTIONALLY broke a thermometer...

No problem getting lead, it is pewter that I am looking for, not easy to find once the Government got involved. "EEEK, it's got LEAD in it!! Call in the HazMat boys!!!" What crap.

Re: LEAD, you need it , I got it

Personnally, my supply of lead comes from my local mecanic's garage. With todays nice fancy magweels they use the same lead stripes we use(the ones with stickky back) and each time they change tires they strip it and trow it away. So once in a while I go see my mecanic and I pick in his bucket... what I need. He gives it to me.

Re: LEAD, you need it , I got it

I worked for over a quarter century in a lead smelting environment, with monthly bloodwork checks for all employees, without health problems. With basic precautions observed it was rare that anyone's blood-lead level rose to the point that they had to be removed from the source for a week or three, during which time the metal is steadily excreted from the body. Children, however, are more prone to absorbtion, hence the elimination of lead content in paint, toys, etc.

A few minutes spent melting a small amount of lead present no hazard - just wash hands afterwards
