Elec receiver compatibility

Hi I'm getting back into the hobby and I have upgraded my lunch box to ESC and newer battery. When I installed the ESC I thought it was standard connectors but it would fit but the wires were not in the correct order.
I ended up frying one of my airtronics channel on the receiver.
My question is, could I buy a receiver that has the same frequency and modulation and put my crystal in and would it work.
My receiver is an airtronics 75Mhz AM receiver.

Re: receiver compatibility

I'm not sure about AM systems, but in the FM world, an Airtronics Transmitter is compatible with airtronics and JR receivers. There are also Hitec receivers that operate in JR mode, and they will also work. Some guys will say that you can mix airtronics and JR recievers with either airtronics of JR crystals, but I disagree, and would keep like with like.

If I were in your shoes, I would upgrade to at least an FM system, or one of the newer 2.4 systems. Radios are cheap to buy now, and the functionality of the computer systems is far superior to the older non-computer systems.
Most can be programmed for multiple models, and the settings are stored for each model individualy.

Re: receiver compatibility

you could change the wiring on the old receivers to work with the new need to move the power(positive) from the outer pin(old) to the center pin(new) .you just make small extensions to convert the old system to the new plug and wiring(J type) .cheers Roger
