Magnets and Scale Heli

Well last weekend Gizmodude and I dropped a HK 450 GT into a KDS scale body. A really nice fit sortof just slid in . Mind you it did take a bout half an hour to put in one screw in the tail. Perseverance did prevail. Test flew it last sat and then on monday some indoor flying when all of a sudden we got a high pitch sound. With this we shut it down. Taking a hunch I ordered new main shaft New main shaft bearings and main gears . Rotorquest was as always on the ball and had my stuff in a couple of days. Today I took Heli apart and changed all the parts I bought. Well it took care of most of the noise, but still an unusual sound. Now I only have a main shaft without a head so this eliminated a lot of things. What is that flapping on the motor . The paper/plastic sticker peeled it off and now no noise. Hard to believe how much noise this paper made turning at what 20,000 plus rpm I guess the canopy magnets had come unglued and bounced onto the motor then thrown back futher and chewed some plastic off the main gear. When we put the heli in the body I had re glued the mounting blocks etc as I new chinese glue could be faulty Never even thought about the magnets
To a tree, balsa wood and MonoKote taste just like chicken!

Good lesson! Lucky you didn't lose it.
The Blade SR stickers coming flying off the motors all the time (people push the batteries up against them)- usually make a zipping sound.

Magnets can be bought bulk or individually at Lee Valley tools - really good ones in different sizes

Thumbs up Re: Magnets and Scale Heli

Yep...I agree Mike...never assume its good..especially when we had one magnet fall out during the build..that shoudl have been a 'sign' that we should have just epoxied all of them in place...Asian glue ( I think its more like spit and hold ) rather than real good adhesive...

LOL, love the lessons we learn building these !!
and Good Health
