Elec 1/10 Slash 4x4 VXL Maintenance

Okay - so it's been almost a week now since I purchase my Slash and it has seen about 4-5 runs on the stock battery using both profile 1 (100% throttle) and 3 (50% throttle).

Weather here around Ottawa for the past week has been mild the Slash has seen some hard and soft and slushy snow, wet and dry pavement and it has spit up it's share of street gravel as it has torn up and down my street on many occasions to the delight of many neighbors.

With that in mind, I decided to take er' apart this evening to better understand it's hardware (before something meaningful breaks) and give er' a bit of a cleaning. I essentially removed both the front and rear ends; which is a snap to do, by removing the 4-5 screws as indicated in the manual.

So I essentially cleaned the chassis (as is - without removing any other hardware) and spent some time cleaning the front and rear ends (without getting water into the differentials. I did not open the casing on the pinion and spur gears to have a look - that will be my next challenge.

So I have a few questions to ask:

1) Drive Shaft - It does not appear that is sits tightly in the sense that is has play to move both forward and backward against the slipper clutch and front differential assembly. I assume it's intended to be that way but I only noticed this once I re-assembled the truck and did not observe this before hand so could not compare the before and after in my head.

2) Differentials (Front and Rear) - What maintenance is required here? Do I need to be adding (ie periodically) some lubricant in there? If so - when and what?

3) I also noticed what looked to be an oily film on one of the half shafts (front passenger) - right at the differential but did not see the same on the left side. Should the lubricant naturally be making it's way out onto the shaft from the differential?

I am already noticing rust spotting on the screws so will be getting out some lube to dab on the heads of screws moving forward. All in all - I love this damn thing and my son cannot get enough either. I am sure it won't be long before we add another : )

Any feedback and guidance is greatly appreciated.
