Suggested Deep V 72" (6 foot) Motor and Prop

Hello everyone, I am fairly new to RC Boats, I've been doing RC airplanes for many years but am dabbling into boats and I've just built a 72" Deep V from scratch and would like some suggestions on Motor and Props to use. I am thinking of using Two Motors and Two props.

Thanks

Much easier and less expensive to convert a weedeater motor unless you are rolling in cash !

Re: Suggested Deep V 72" (6 foot) Motor and Prop

Sorry guys, I was pressed for time when I wrote this thread and I failed to mention a few things.

I want to go Electric with this boat and not gas or glow.

I will most likely purchase the motors and esc for HobbyKing if they have motors in the size that someone suggests.

Right now I have an old Prather 3" inch prop that I purchased many years ago that I think may be the right size for a boat this size but this is the reason I am asking, I am not sure what the scale should be.

I would like to get this boat to reach excessive speed and performance such as in the 50-60 mph range or higher.

So... with this new information does anyone have an idea what size the Electric motors should be and what KV they should be?

Thanks
Ray

Re: Suggested Deep V 72" (6 foot) Motor and Prop

Hey ray I never did a 1/4 scale to electric but I would check out what size of the mamba conversion kit for the hpi 5b buggy. The motor is a 2028 brushless which hobby king should have there version and in there description they will have a recommendation for an esc make sure it's water cooled, but the motor u might have to wrap it with aluminum tubbing. The mamba kit can push out 10hp so x 2 of these would be reallly cool to see!
Good luck and keep us posted I have a 55" Dumas I would now consider making electric

Re: Suggested Deep V 72" (6 foot) Motor and Prop

Thanks jkrash and LoCo, I had a chance to look at the link LoCo posted and it was very informative, I was able to use their calculators and charts to figure out what I would use and I am getting closer to making a decision.

jkrash! from what I read in the charts on the mentioned website (offshoreelectrics.com) their charts recommend motors in the 42x60 size and up. My original prop was a 3" but now it looks like the right size is more like a 2-1/8" size maximum, anything bigger would be in a gas engine setup (correct me if I am wrong this is all new to me)

I am attaching a photo of myself holding the almost completed Deep V ( me cut out for privacy reasons ) LOL. I got these plans from a website a few month ago and decided to export it into my CamBam program for cutting on my CNC machine, so the whole thing was built on a CNC machine.

Re: Suggested Deep V 72" (6 foot) Motor and Prop

Hello my friend well as for scale drives you have named almost all of them I dont know much about them since that's not what i use on my boats Im a racer just a good old flex shaft and strut.
if you wish you can check out these guys they do have a great looking unit.
http://www.radiocontrol-2005.com/MC611.php
Hmmm they seem to be sold out at this point.
and now for the RCMK K30 they just came out on the market not to long ago
but seem to be a nice power plant.
the reason why i say this is because the RCMK 26cc blew my mind away the first time i seen it in a Hydro racing boat and we got 64mph in stock form very im perssive.

if you have any more questions dont be shy to ask I will try tp help.

Regards
Luc
