Has anyone made a model of the LeRhone rotary engine?

Re: LeRhone Rotary??

If you are talking of working scale model there are a few. A guy in the US made a 1/3 (1/4?) scale rotary, eventually made a scale high wing observation plane of the period. I think it was featured in one of the model mags years ago. I saw it at the Dayton Dawn Patrol in '07.

Then there was another with a commercial slant. I don't remember where I saw it and I don't seem to have bookmarked it but someone has made one of the rotaries. I think it was 1/4 scale and either a LeRone or Gnome. The web site seemed to show it was a limited build for sale. I think it was an initial prototype of a limited production run. Or it was intended to be made on a one by one basis. There have been many 1/4 Bently BR2s made. A guy in OZ built one in the 80s or 90s and there is a book on how to make your own. I own a copy of the book.

As for non functioning one for display or dummy use in models there are quite a few. Williams Bros makes full and partial kits in a variety of scales. Bob Holman or Frank Tiano makes some 1/3 scale ones. I think they are cast resin front view. Hope this helps.

Hi Kip,
Go to the Paul Knapp's Miniature Engine Collection and Museum if you have never seen it before. Awesome stuff there. You can see the airplane and motor Stephen refers to. Enjoy!

Cheers Glenn
