One advantage of mixing fillers into epoxy is that it doesn't run as much. I often coat the opening by brush before mixing the filler into the epoxy. This allows me to mix epoxy thicker and it will still bond. Epoxy alternatives are shoving kleenex into a hole and hit with CA or mix some Gorilla glue with a few drops of water and dab in with a stick just as it starts foaming. A masking tape dam can be helpful to keep the runs under control.
Its always best to keep a close eye on things so any runs can be kept under control if you overdid it with the application.
