Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Progress tonight on the nose section. I cut a profile of the cowl, in 1/4 ply. The plans for the Reeves Hurricane don't have a top view, but my 1/5th Mossie plans do, and I've borrowed a 1/5th Hurricane Cowl for reference. I've got the first pair of side braces cut, and one glued in place. As soon as the nose section is roughed in, and well braced, I can then remove it, set it upright on a table, and finish it from there. Right now, only way of getting to the other side of the shop is crawling underneath!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

WoW, and I think my models are large. Just as a matter or curiosity, I think at the beging you started this project as a club event, I was just wondering how that is working out....
Keep up the good work, I guess you can get more done while you have a job, it gives you more inspiration to do things. It seems that when you retire, you think everything slows down as much as you do, and it usually does................ Enjoying the thread, great to see things taking shape for you... AL

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Never intended to be a club event, just put the invitation out to the club, I've had one fellow help out over the Christmas Holidays, other than that, it's all me! lol I'd rather be retired, I'm very swamped, and very into keeping busy. I find work gets in the way of my hobbies. When I've got a day off, I'm up at 6 AM, make coffee, then working till it's time to relax for a bit in front of the fire. Thank god the wife builds too! lol

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

More fabricating done on the engine cowl. Lots to go yet, but it's starting to take shape.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Slow progress, I need about 50 more clamps. Getting there though, the cowl has the tightest curves, and will need to be done carefully. The top section, as seen in the second photo, should go ok with four sections of 1/8th ply. Wish me luck! lol

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Not much. The entire fuse section in the photos happened over the holidays. I just eat, catnap, and build! lol Leeann has 3 airplanes on the go herself, thank god, so she's pretty understanding.
