Some shots of the work required to get the first panel on, for the Port Side. This is the pilot's kick out panel, in case of being unable to egress via the canopy. A lot of hours sanding, checking, sanding some more, prior to rough cutting the first panel. Once it's tacked into place, final cutting lines are drawn, and the panel is cut. This panel has 1 inch finish nails along the sides and bottom, spaced at 1 inch apart, 1/4 inch from the edge. Makes for a very clean looking installation.

Couple more panels on the Port Side. Moving along nicely.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Last bits of structure going in, before sheeting the bottom part of the fuselage. While that was drying, I ripped 2 dozen stringers, and framed up another 5 foot section of fuselage. 40 more inches to go! Once this section is fully framed, and stringers in, it will get detached, so that I can move it beside the rest of the fuse, and complete the final section. Won't go back together again until shipping day, hopefully 2-4 April timeframe.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

More work done tonight, got another panel attached. I also finished all the cross bracing for the added tail section. Once I get the fuselage bulkheads cut and installed for this section, it can be disconnected, and worked on beside the main fuselage. This way, no more crawling on the floor to get to the other side of the shop!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Couple more pics, doing the final fitting of the forward fuse panels, then have to do a small panel aft of the cockpit, and that's it for sheeting. Final turtledeck formers are tacked into place, I'll get the spine fit tomorrow, along with the 3/4 in pine for taking the stringers, and then pop that section off, to allow me to fit the last 42 inches of fuse. I'm off work till Tuesday, so should have the fuse ready to transport by then!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Finally, done with all the sheeting! Nose section is all done, fitting went very quick, just have to cut out for the wing on the bottom section. Doghouse got it's two panels as well, so this section of fuse just needs stringers installed. I also finished the framing on the five foot tail section, so was able to remove that, and add the final bit, another 38 1/4 inches. Now it won't get reattached until it's time to transport, as it's now too long for the garage. I've got the weekend, and all day Monday, to finish the stringers, the final sheeting on the engine cowl, and the framework for the tail. Then, it will be moving day!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Tonight's shots. Main fuse is 99% done, couple of little things to finish tomorrow, then it's ready for transport. Tail section of the fuse still needs a pile of stringers, but they'll go fairly quickly. I did manage to get the stringers on the starboard side of the turtle deck.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Stringers on the port side of the rear fuselage section are done. About an hour of work to do on the starboard side, and this section will be ready for transport to the museum.
