Actually, that's me in the photo. It does look like a Guillows kit, for sure!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

The museum just received a gift of multiple sets of plans, mostly RC, i.e. Brian Taylor plans, but also some that are copies of factory drawings, from Hawker. Being in the UK, my first recommendation would be to consult with Hurricane Restorations, Inc., as well as having a chat with Mick Reeves. We purchased a set of his plans, 1:4.5 scale, and the short laser cut kit. That allows for lofting from the plans/parts. I didn't have detailed structural plans, until the donation a couple of days ago. Bit late, least for the fuselage! The other thing I'd highly recommend, is arranging with a museum, or Hurricane owner, to take detailed photographs and measurements. I've also got a Haynes Owner's manual, which has much useful information, as well as a book that's essentially a reprint of the entire maintenance manuals from wartime vintage, which gives great descriptions, and detailed drawings of the electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems. Hope that's a start, you can PM me for specifics, if need be. Hopefully you'll take lots of photos, and detail all your work for posterity as well!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I've heard rumours that some other crazy Canuck is building a Hurricane replica, full sized, but don't have any concrete info on the project. I did see an amazing Me-109 replica, built in Edmonton, for sale on EBay, a while ago. It sold for around $67,000 US if I recall correctly.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Thank you very much, I will call them today, Im hoping that I can get mine to a quality build of yours but it will be a tall order. I have already been in contact with Mick Reeves. Very helpful indeed. Thanks for your help and I will continue to follow this thread.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

They were pretty useful. Again, if you have any specific questions, let me know. It was an incredible frustration the other day to see 1/2 scale fuselage former templates, in the piles of Hurricane stuff that were brought into the museum. I really could have used those, and built exact scale formers, sigh. If I'm stationed here another year, I might replace all the turtledeck formers with exact scale.
