Final fitting and sanding done, and the Vertical Stab and Rudder are now at the museum! I did a quick fit test of the Vertical Stab on the fuse, and it looks bang on! Yay, on to the Horizontal Stab now!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I did get to sit in it, lol once! It will be well into 2015, before it's done, so once I get the interior done up, and the seat mounted, I'll let you know, and I can arrange for you to do just that!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I should have the horizontal stab done, and elevators in a couple of weeks, then I can get them attached to the fuse, and I'll take lots of pics of that event! Same thing when we mate the wing center section to the fuse. We'll have to wait for spring to mount the outer wing panels, as we'll need to wheel the fuse outside for that.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

While I haven't posted in a bit, I have been very busy on the project. I vowed to myself to get the Horizontal Stab and Elevators done before New Years, and tonight, I'm happy to report, success. I'll clear out the RC Airplane trailer tomorrow, load up the stab, and deliver to the Shearwater Aviation Museum. I've now gone on strike, and I'm refusing to work on the Hurricane anymore this year. So, Jan 1, 2015, I'll start the final major construction phase, the outer wing panels! I've got the material rough cut for the spars, and some rib blanks cut. When I deliver the stab, I'll pick up more plywood, and be all ready to get some wings on the go!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Dave;
I had a look at the museum webpage a while ago and was very surprized that they did NOT mention the Hurricane build what-some-ever!

Do you know why they are so silent on this project??

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

The Warrior magazine, put out by the Museum has mentioned it a few times, but coyly, you're right, it's not being advertised very openly. If you do some looking on the webpage, I've posted quite a few photos, and build info, but it takes some looking. I'm a fan of keeping it fairly low-key though, as the Museum has been doing. All sorts of things could go wrong with the project. I could have made a complete mess of it, could get deployed, posted, etc, so that's one reason for a bit of caution. Also, the person who donated the $10,000 to make this happen, is doing so anonymously, and to be honest, if we tooted our horns too loudly locally, I'd end up with way too many people wanting to see the work in progress. OK if I were building it at the museum, but not so much fun at my house. We'd need a coffee and donut fund. Hmm, I could charge admission of coffee and donut, might have to re-think! lol Finally, we all want to save all the hoopla for the reveal. Once we near the completion date, then we'll go nuts on advertising. Also, given the rarity of a single individual building a full sized warbird replica, there is potential of a book on the subject, which could help raise some much needed funds for the Museum as well, so can't give away all the material!
