All sorts of things could go wrong with the project. I could have made a complete mess of it, could get deployed, posted, etc, so that's one reason for a bit of caution. Also, the person who donated the $10,000 to make this happen, is doing so anonymously, and to be honest, if we tooted our horns too loudly locally, I'd end up with way too many people wanting to see the work in progress. OK if I were building it at the museum, but not so much fun at my house. We'd need a coffee and donut fund. Hmm, I could charge admission of coffee and donut, might have to re-think! lol Finally, we all want to save all the hoopla for the reveal. Once we near the completion date, then we'll go nuts on advertising. Also, given the rarity of a single individual building a full sized warbird replica, there is potential of a book on the subject, which could help raise some much needed funds for the Museum as well, so can't give away all the material!
ummmm...

Where do I begin??

I had not thought about the problems that the notariety could have brought to you. Here in Trenton we have a crew in the Museum that is constantly rebuilding 'something' and the workshop IS open to the public - but it is a tad larger than your garage...

Congratulations on the anonymous donor. I had no idea.

A book deal?? WOW! Way to go! Let me know when it comes out and I'll get a copy - but you have to autograph it!

Keep up the good work and keep us (the RCC family) posted of the progress!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I've sent a query up to the Curator of the Museum, I don't see why we couldn't come up with a book, I've got tons of photos, and lots of write-ups about the project. There's a bit of history to the whole thing as well, which I think readers would find interesting. Now if only the military would leave me here in Shearwater, for my last few years in the CF, I could get ready for the next aircraft on their wish list, a Hawker Sea Fury. Sad that Shearwater doesn't have one, it was a huge part of the aviation scene here post WW 2.

Military Logic - "If you ask - they will do the opposite"

The Higher-Ups believe that it builds character.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I've been threatened with a posting this January, yup, talk about short notice, to Victoria. It would cost my wife her career, breaking a lease on the house we rent, the sudden death of the Hurricane Project (after I was assured I was completely safe until summer 2016 at least), and I'd have to drive across Canada, towing the RC trailer, in the worst possible weather. There's no logic to it, and I'm hoping the big heads will clue into the folly of it all. But, I've got 28 years plus in, if need be, I'll retire. Sad, I'd like to go till 55, and retire on my terms, but necessity might very well change that. I promised the Museum a Hurricane, and I don't break my promises.

Dave - Thanks for the 28 years!

Good luck, no matter how things turn

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Hey Dave;

Been there and done that - Hope for the best and Plan for the worst. Don't expect anything too courageous from the Careers Shop as they have their own agenda.

I left the employ of the Queen some 12 years ago in much the same situation - with Four years less than you.

It gave me a BIG BAD attitude that took a long time to get over. All you can do is make the best decision for you and yours and then live with it.

Happy Landings.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

We all want Dave to stay, If he'd just take my advise and give the career manager a big wet kiss and tell him he'd do anything for a posting, I'm sure he'd be staying here for a good long time.
