Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I'm laminating the wing leading edge, trying to keep it light, but strong enough to handle being transported occasionally. Lots of work with the hand plane, then the random orbital sander to shape. It's going quickly though. Hardest part is the underside, using the plane and sander upside down is a bit slower going!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

OK, got the sheeting done on the wingtip, and all the shaping/sanding on the bottom of the leading edge! Now, I just have to flip the wing, sand the top half of the leading edge, and this wing is ready to go to the museum, to get mated up with the wing center section!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Leeann and I got the wing flipped for the last time, it's now right side up, just have to finish the leading edge, then it's ready for transport to the museum. Right wing will go pretty quick, I hope!

Pictures please when you do!! Please, please!!

We all know how big you can build, but what is the smallest you have ever built? It must be a shock going back to a normal R/C size plane for you!! But probably a good shock!!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

I've got several small Guillows kits, used to build them all the time as a kid. Also have a few Balsa USA 1/12th kits, P-51, Me-109. I've got a really cool set of plans, it's a P-51 peddle plane, built one for a pilot buddy's son, in Tuskegee Airmen colours. That was a hoot.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Another big day, Left Wing successfully moved to the Shearwater Aviation Museum! I now need to expedite the Right Wing, and get ready for getting as much done as I can for the Spring Hobby Show, 10 April. Plan is to get the nose section of the fuse attached, tail surfaces attached, and get the wing center section mounted. If time, the pilot's seat too, so kids can sit in a Hurricane!
