Sure, sounds great. Now get carving!!!! lol Horizontal Stab and Vertical Stab are ready for paint, once we hammer down the airframe to tail number, A or B scheme, it will be No 1 Sqn RCAF, 1940, just after their arrival in the U.K.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Underside of the Horizontal Stab got it's first coat of Sky today, courtesy of Leeann, she's the sole painter for the project. Said something about hurting me if I let anyone else touch it. While she did that, I carried on with counter sinking screws, filling and sanding on the cowl. Seems a never ending process, but hopefully done this weekend.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

While I carried on with the engine cowl, Leeann got to work on the Horizontal and Vertical stabs. First coat of dark green and dark earth are on. Undersides of the Horizontal stab are done! Last bit of sanding shaping to go on the engine cowl, then we can mount that to the fuse. We were honoured today to have a visitor, who just happened to fly Hurricanes and Spitfires 1944-45! Very cool.

Are you going to send some pictures to Mick Reeves to show him a scaled up version of his kit/plans?

Wow! Leeann was quite busy with the brush after we left. Looks great leeann!

not too many photos of dave on here so check this one out. Dave chatting with my good friend Rob Guildford this afternoon. You can tell from the sanding dust he has been very busy.

second shot is Leeann reluctantly showing her handiwork.

and third is John Webber of the museum staff who has been covering the tail feathers of late. He's shown here at left lifting the rudder to show us the uncovered side. At right is rob again, and Edgil Dauphinee, 95 of Dartmouth, NS who flew hurricanes here in Canada and spits after his deployment overseas on D-day. Edgil also taught many many wartime pilots to fly during both civilian and forces stints at various flying schools in canada, including stanley here in nova scotia.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Thanks Al, wonderful meeting a wartime fighter pilot, so few left. If I'm as spritely at 75 as Edgil is at 95, I'll be happy! lol Hopefully around end June, you'll all be invited back to see the Hurri on her legs, and all assembled! We're looking to plan a movie night, Battle of Britain, of course, with the Hurricane as the backdrop.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Well the engine cowl is finally done, sanded, and a coat of sanding sealer is on, light sanding, and it's ready for paint. Also finished the left side of the fuse, for the fabric, so that's done now, ready to go. Elevators and belly pan received their last coat of the silver primer today, so they are now ready for paint in 48 hrs.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Lots of painting getting done! Leeann Lagace is now done the horizontal stab. Elevators have their camo done, just the undersides to go. Vertical stab has first coat of the fin flash blue and red, white goes on tomorrow. Belly pan got first coat of Sky, one more coat to go! I finished all the last bit finicky work on the engine cowl, it's got it's first coat of paint, but camera battery died. Also got more work done on the fuselage. First bit of fabric will go on the fuse next Tuesday! Hopefully I can keep up, and if all goes well, as soon as the fabric work is done, and primed, then we can get the fuse straight into paint, then it will be set aside while we finish the wings!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

A very, very busy weekend. Engine cowl is now permanently attached to the fuselage, and the fuse is now up on two dollys, so we can now easily move it around. Starboard Wing fillet wasn't quite the right shape, a bit too large, so sanding that down to proper size. Right wing fillet was quick to frame up, proper size, and was installed yesterday. Today, we dropped the center wing section, cleared out the room, pretty much, and then cleaned, and re-organized. It also gave us the opportunity to place the center wing section against the port outer wing. Fit looks really good. That, is one huge wing. That's 24 1/2 feet of the 40 foot wingspan. Now that the fuse is jacked up, and stable without the wing center section, we can finish as much of the front end as possible, before John Webber starts the fabric work Tuesday. While that is going on, tons of primer can go on the wing panels, and I've started cutting parts for the flaps and ailerons. I can start those at home Tuesday, and keep out of John's way. Thanks today for the help, Dave McIsaac, John Fennel, John Forsythe, and John Malenfant, for all the grunt work!
