Lots of weekend work, fillets almost complete, tail access panel and belly pan fin all done. Tail wheel has arrived, it's from a Polish cropduster, but the right sized tire, rim, and double fork setup, perfect size for the Hurricane. 1 Inch plywood plate is in, guys are just welding up a mounting plate, and we'll have 1/3rd of the wheels. Metal experts at the museum are also going to do the rocker cover blisters, exhaust stacks, and a few other bits and pieces. Mains are being drawn up, museum will manufacture those as well.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Tail wheel mounting plate will be done by Saturday, we'll have the mounting plate primered, and once the tail wheel is mounted, we can fit the first belly pan, and the fin, after fin gets painted. Access hatch is ready for paint inside and out. Right wing fillet is 75% towards paint stage, little more filling sanding, it will be done by tomorrow, and the Left wing fillet should be complete by Saturday. As soon as that's done, the fuselage will get moved to it's painting location.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

John Webber, the museums' AME, pulled a rabbit out of the hat Saturday, and here's the result. Aluminum plate in the photos is just a jig for figuring out the angles required for the steel plate that will support the tail wheel assembly. It's from a Polish Crop-duster, and is the right tire and rim size, and the right fork style for the Hurricane. Who knew! lol He's also fabricating the main landing gear, which will also have the internal hard points if we ceiling mount the aircraft. About an hour's work, and the right side of the fuse is ready for paint, and about 4 hours on the left side.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Right side will get the final sanding today. I managed to get all of the fibreglass on the left wing fillet last night, so filling and sanding work today and tomorrow. Sunday, fuselage will be moved over to it's painting location, and we'll start setting up for mating the outer wing panels to the center section.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

With the help of John Webber, the museum's AME and his crew, the Hurricane now has it's tail wheel, fully installed.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Fuselage is now ready for paint. A coat of dark green primer has been applied over the wood, and both wing fillets. Tomorrow, we'll move the fuselage over to another part of the museum, where Leeann will begin to mark out the camo, and start painting. I'll focus on attaching each outer wing panel, and finishing off the leading edges of the wing.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

A series of shots showing the move of the fuselage, over to paint. Quite the process, but it went very smoothly.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Biggest worry was the tracks for the large sliding glass door, but with the castering tail wheel, and the two creepers, it was just slow and steady.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Next we installed the tail feathers, so leeann could ensure paint lines were correct, and by the end of the day, she had all the first coat of Dark Earth applied on the fuselage.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Leeann finished all of the dark earth today, and first coat of the dark green. One more coat of that, and she'll be unemployed till I get more done for her to paint!
