Hopefully a few more weeks, and she'll be pretty much done. There's an event on the base, 26th September, that we'd like to take the opportunity to showcase the aircraft. I'm doubtful that we'll make the 10 September Battle of Britain ceremony locally, simply too much yet to do, and work takes up a huge chunk of time, six new students in house, since 4 August, and 3 new instructors to train at the same time. I'm really running out of me! lol

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

tail feathers are back on the Hurricane, I'll get more pics this weekend. Leeann will continue painting, while I finish up the ailerons, get those to fabric, and get the wing tip on the right wing, then flip and finish the undersides.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

All the panels are back on the wing center section, as well as final painting done in that area. One aileron is an hour's sanding away from being ready for fabric, and Leeann has started painting the top of the right wing. Wing tip framed up, and top sheeting will go on tomorrow, so she can finish off the paintwork.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Most recent shots. One of the Hurricane from tip to tail, and the remaining showing the gear prior to paint, and then all painted up. Both gear are now done, and very shiny. Right wing has it's first coat of camo on top, and we flipped it over today, to get the undersides cut and sheeted. I've also made the jig for building the propellers, we'll start laminating those up tomorrow.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

We're a bit stuck this weekend, power is out on the entire base, for upgrade work. We did manage a couple of hours of prep work, including the pattern for the gear doors. I'll be working out of my home shop until the power is restored, gear doors, and leading edge of the ailerons, along with prep work for the spinner. We've got one prop blade laminated up, in a jig, tomorrow we'll see if it's a viable way to do the blades.

This round of photos, shows before and after, of the landing gear legs. Aluminum was prepped and painted by staff at the museum, really sets off those legs. Last shot, is nose to tail of how she sits now. Working on the forward belly pan, and I've got the canopy at home, working on it.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Of course, we need a prop. So, I built a jig, which will set the varied pitch, from 0 at the hub, to 20 degrees at the tip. Laminations of ply, glued and clamped, and voila, a prop blank. All 3 are done, and held their twist. Next, we'll mark out the shape, clamp all 3, cut to shape, and then start sanding the airfoil. Last 2 shots, the landing gear doors. Outer side got it's first coat of paint. We'll fully detail the inner side of the doors, that will take a bit, but the look will be worth it.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Last shot for tonight. Right wing, with first five feet (minus wingtip), fully sheeted, rest will get done this week, and hopefully, we'll be close to paint time by the weekend.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

That prop blank looks like the plywood from the local hardware stores!

She's really coming along. Having that TBM in the background sure puts the size of this project in context!
