I was on track to finish the wing leading edge today, but orbital sander crapped out. Still, I'm about 95% done. Will hammer away at it this week, get the filling/sanding done, and paint by the weekend, quick flip over, second coat of camo, then she's ready to get attached to the wing center, along with the left wing, so they can do the weight and balance.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Got 95% of the sanding and filling done on the right wing yesterday. I'll have it all done this morning, and then I can get the wing tip done, sheeted, and be ready for paint. Finally! lol

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Hmm, no one told me the power to the museum was shut off today, for some reason. Managed to get a bit of work done anyways, some tapering of an aileron trailing edge, filling on the spinner, and a pile of clean up. Argh. Always seems to be something impeding my progress!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

First coat of Sky on the undersides of the right wing. Wing tip and paint for the aileron and flap areas to go, and that will complete the final wing. Next to finish are the ailerons, and landing gear doors.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Got more work done on the second aileron today, hand planed the trailing edge, while waiting for glue to dry on the wing tip. Wing tip ribs done, shaped, and tip blocks attached all around, to provide a good glue surface for the skins. Should have those attached tomorrow, and once the wing tip is painted, we need to flip the wing over, do any last bit of leading edge and wing tip sanding on the top side. Bit of paint touch up, and voila, a wing.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Hey Dave;

The last items are starting to come together... well done!

Have you considered what you are going to do when there is no more time allocated to the 'Hurricane Project'?

Oh yes I know - you and the Lady are going to retire and travel about in a RV... but ... your mind will wander and the fingers will itch... the sinuses will long for the sweet smell of sawdust... how long do you think that you can you last before you start looking for - ANOTHER PROJECT!!??

Dave, when you do make that trek west, be aware that there are many fellow RC'ers who would love to meet you, buy you a coffee, and thank you for your efforts.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Thanks Dave, greatly appreciated. When we do hit the road, we'll be sure to hit all the aviation museums across the country, and it would be very cool to meet up with fellow enthusiasts! Hmm future projects. An Me-109 would be cool! Or FW-190, or a Mossie, lol. If a museum asks, I'd certainly have to give it careful consideration!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Today, got all the prep work done for the wing tip, and got it sheeted. Leeann got the second coat of Sky on the wing as well as the primer green for the aileron and flap wells. Tomorrow, I can sand and fill the wing tip, Leeann will get that painted, then we'll need to flip the wing, so I can finish the top side of the wing tip, and we can do any paint touch up. Then that's a wrap. Once the wing is moved out, and after we've installed both wings for weight and balance, I'll have the space to set up tables to allow work on both ailerons, the radiator, prop blades, etc, at the same time. Much better for the times when I can sucker people into helping (sanding!) lol
