Right gear door is done, and first coat of paint both sides. Left gear door fairing is well underway, hope to have them attached to the gear Saturday.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

More good news, one of our club members, Mike Herman, works at the local Steele Chev/GMC Dealer. I asked if there's any chance of the dealership taking on the project of the exhausts, and the owner of the dealership would like to personally take on the challenge. They'll be visiting the museum sometime in the next week, and we'll come up with a plan.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Leeann got the last bit of paint touch up done on the right wing, she also got the second coat of paint on the right gear door, and I got another panel attached to the left gear door, along with marking out the base for the radiator! Good progress tonight.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Today we moved the right wing out of the workshop area, cleaned up a bit, and then set up for fast tracking the rest of the parts. Second gear door is almost done, it will be completed tomorrow, and we've got the radiator well underway! I'll post a pile of photos tomorrow.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Some photos of the recent work. Saturday, we moved the right wing in front of the Swordfish, clearing room for all the remaining sub-assemblies. Radiator is well underway. I used a sacrificial piece of 1/8th ply (not Baltic Birch), as the base. Marked it, cut out to shape, and then we attached 3/4 square all around the edges. Next, two lengthwise strips were laid out, and cross pieces attached. I then cut out the radiator core, front and back, and attached that. Two more lengthwise pieces were notched into the top of the cores, providing support for the shaped 1/8th ply sidewalls. They've been filled with more 3/4 in pine, and once sanded, I can sheet the top of the radiator, and build the radiator flap. I'll then sand the base to proper shape, and begin sheeting the sides. Not sure yet how I'll do the radiuses along the corners and base yet, but one step at a time. The Mick Reeves short kit doesn't come with the rad, so the only 3 dimensional piece I have is the 1/24th scale plastic one, and lots of photos! While some glue was drying on the rad, I got the last piece installed on the left gear door, so tomorrow I can finish the sanding/filling, and get it painted.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

We do have a willing volunteer to try and slope soar it from Lawrencetown beach! lol More progress tonight, we got the glass on the spinner, tomorrow, after I attend the Afghan Memorial Ceremony, and chat with some fellow survivors of that wonderful sandy retreat, we'll get to work sanding and filling it, and hopefully ready for paint.
