The tail fillets so far, went really quick, way quicker than any other method, not to mention the right material compared to the real deal. I finished the last bit of work on the wing fillets today, so, other than a bit of shaping of the molds for the wing tips, no more sanding or filling left to do! It's all about the finishing touches now. One bit of bad news, I will have to do my own exhausts after all, but I've drawn up a set of full scale 3 view drawings for the exhausts, I'll cut blanks from pink foam, sand and shape at home, then glass them with 4 oz cloth. I can then hollow out the exhaust stubs, and paint. Won't take too long, but I'll finish everything else first.

Just stumbled across this thread as I am new here and all I have to say is WOW! Quite the undertaking and what an amazing job you guys are doing. Thanks for sharing all the hard work you guys are putting in as the work progresses. I will eventually work my way through all 51 pages of your build!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Thanks, appreciate the support. As soon as we're done, I have to devote some time to some articles on the build for various publications, as well as a book detailing the whole project. The book will be sold to raise funds for the Shearwater Aviation Museum. They still need a Seafire, and a Sea Fury. I'd love to tackle either or both projects lol.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Another good weekend, got the wing fillets completely done, also cut out the parts for the tail fillet, from aluminum, that's all done now, and the second nav light is shaped, so that leaves us the gun ports and landing lights to go, and a pile of dusting/cleaning. Then it's back over to just R/C stuff!

The guy who had volunteered to do the exhausts had to back out, so I'm doing those as well. Pink foam, laminated to 4"thick, cut to shape, sand, add the stub exhausts, and in a few days they'll all be glassed and ready for paint.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

One set of exhausts are shaped, sanded, and fibre-glassed, one more set to go. Need to get a bit more cloth, also need two sheets of clear plastic for the landing lights, and that will about wrap up the build. Should have the exhausts ready for paint by Thursday, and installed on the weekend.

5 of 6 stacks got their first coat of primer, and one landing light lens is cut and fitted.
