Hey Dave, when you write your memories and thoughts about building a large one to one model, don't forget to put your wife`s name in it as well. I think she did a fabulous job on the painting..... other that, it will be great to see a picture of you , your wife, and the plane all together after the final assembly
Congratulations on a job well done by you, your partner and your crew................ Al Harse, Bluewater R.C. Flyers Sarnia Ont.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

She's featured highly throughout this thread, plus work she's done on some of my aircraft, plus her own builds! She also does a ton of craft stuff, decorations, etc. Once the museum has final approval for how they're going to display the aircraft, we'll be sure to get some pics of it. We'll hide behind a wing! lol Thanks for all the well wishes!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Before they hoist her to the rafters, there needs to be some pics taken of members of the construction team in the cockpit. I know you already have a couple, but those weren't of the completed plane!

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

The construction team is myself and Leeann for 90% of the work, John Webber, and his two volunteers, young John, and Chris, who did most of the fabric work, as well as fabricating the landing gear. John Webber was a tech on the flight deck of the Bonaventure, he's in his 70s now, and no way is he going to try to fit in that cockpit. There will be very little time between assembly, and hoisting, unfortunately. They have to take the wings off the Harvard, move it, then move a large radar, the T-Bird, and the Tutor. We'll literally have one day to do all the prep work, move all the aircraft, assemble the Hurricane, quick grip and grin, then hoist it, and put all the aircraft back in place. I was hoping that our donor would have been the guest of honour, and get a photo seated in the Hurricane, but sadly he passed away early fall of 2015.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Just found out that this Friday, I'll be required to get all dressed up, Dress Uniform and Medals, to receive a Wing Commander's Commendation for the work on the Hurricane. Leeann will be there, but the Commendation, shouldn't be in my name only. Hers should be on there, the guys from the museum that created the landing gear, and the club members that always showed up when I needed to move a component around. They all made this project possible. Also, we've had a large key made up, so the day the museum unveils the Hurricane, I can hand over the key, signed by all who helped. Just in case they need to do engine runups! lol

Nice!!!
I cant believe this project is coming to an end. I recall when you first came and and suggested you might try a full scale model. You've come a long way, Dave! Congrats

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Many, many of us wish we could be there to applaude and shake the hands of everyone involved.

As I said in an earlier post, I have put a trip to see it on my bucket list, and it is in the short list of places to go this summer, depending in large part on input from my beloved wife.

(I wear the pants in my household; but she has a lot of input as to style, size and colour!)

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

If anyone is travelling to the Halifax area, and I'm around, I do have 24/7 access to the museum, can arrange a tour anytime. If you need an after hours showing to take 1000 photos of the Swordfish, Avenger, Firefly, etc, I can arrange. We also have an incredible library of aviation books, including walkaround books, most squadron signal books, so an amazing resource for research. If you're looking for any info, feel free to send me a PM, and if I can find it, I can get it to you. If your spouse needs encouragement to visit here, we have a great waterfront in Halifax, nearby there's Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove, Lawrencetown Beach (also great slope soaring!!!), lots of shopping, and things for the ladies to do, while you tour the museum, hit the local hobby shops, and get out to a 10,000 foot paved RC runway!!
