We also have an incredible library of aviation books, including walkaround books, most squadron signal books, so an amazing resource for research. If you're looking for any info, feel free to send me a PM, and if I can find it, I can get it to you. If your spouse needs encouragement to visit here, we have a great waterfront in Halifax, nearby there's Mahone Bay, Peggy's Cove, Lawrencetown Beach (also great slope soaring!!!), lots of shopping, and things for the ladies to do, while you tour the museum, hit the local hobby shops, and get out to a 10,000 foot paved RC runway!!
When are you retiring/leaving for your mega road trip again?

This offer is too good to pass up.
Plus- like you said; It would make a great Holiday destination that the other half would enjoy.
Would be nice to make a visit before you depart.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

Retirement is looking like May, 2017. I can retire anytime, with 30 days notice, but the bosses really want me looking after our Squadron's 75th Anniversary stuff, and publishing our Squadron's History. I'm obviously a military history nerd, so couldn't pass that up. I keep telling my bosses, it's now up to them to keep me entertained, to keep me working! lol But by May next year, I'd pretty much be paying to go to work. Retiring out West, with the RV, and spending all our time travelling to fun flies, RC events, museums, etc, will actually cost less, than if I stay in Nova Scotia working. Taxes, food, fuel, everything here is through the roof. With pension splitting, and the costs of an RV, vice a house, we'll have more money to spend after retirement, than we do now. So, working for the enjoyment of the job for 1 more year, then it's permament road-trip/vacation for us.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

We can't do airshows. There is no runway anymore, it's a Heliport. The FADO (short runways) are only certified for rotary wing. We will be having a combined fun fly, so bring some R/C planes, and play on our 10,000 feet of runway, bring your R/C cars too, you can camp out at the field, fire pit, BBQ area, great beach at Morris Lake that is a 2 min walk, perfect for the whole family.

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

OH, did I miss something, I was still looking forward to see the completion of all your hard work. Has the dedication of the model been done. I, as well as a lot of others in the modeling world would really appreciate some of the last pictures of the completed plane (in one piece) on the ground, and hanging in the display...............By the way, retirement ain't that bad , once you get used to living with your wife 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. LOL Enjoy the ride........ Al

Re: Really Giant Scale Hurricane

No, there was a long wait to see if the engineers were going to approve hanging the aircraft from the hangar ceiling. They have not approved, therefore the museum is looking at a plan B. Right now, there simply isn't enough space on the floor, to have her sitting with the outer wings on. They are now investigating the idea of steel stands, about 4 feet tall, that the mains and tail wheel would sit on, which would raise the wings up above the tutor jet and the Harvard. Until there's a solid plan in place, and the finances to go ahead, she sits like she is. All done, but outer wings off, and no dedication. As soon as something changes, I'll be sure to post and let everyone know.
