I won't go all safety Sam on everyone here, but if you enjoy painting your airplanes, even if you are using what you THINK are safe paints (latex or other waterborne paints) if you really want to be safe, this is what you need.
There are 2 very good methods to protect yourself when painting, 1. Have a proper professional paint booth capable of changing ALL the air in the booth at least twice a minute and wear a high quality cartridge mask, or 2. Have a fresh air breathing system.
The first option is very expensive, and requires a lot of space. The second option still requires a smart area to paint, but costs much less, and requires nearly no space at all.
I have a Survivair Fresh air breathing system. It is a full face mask with silicone seal. Hoses, fittings etc. Included with it is the breathing air compressor. You CANNOT use a regular compressor with a fresh air mask, YOU WILL DIE. I am not saying that for dramatic effect, I'm saying it for your protection. Regular shop compressors are full of mold, fungus, an oil lubricated compressor produces carbon monoxide as it runs, the air is hot coming out of the compressor, the oil atomizes very finely and does get into your lines etc.
The compressor I have with this system is a constant flow compressor, this means it is always positive pressure inside the mask so not only are you breathing clean air when you need it, but the carbon dioxide you breathe out is quickly evacuated by the positive pressure, further to that, NO outside contaminants can find their way in. This compressor is for a breathing system only. It is an oiless filtered system.
This particular system when I purchased it in about 2003 was $1700. Today, with dropping prices on everything, a comparable system is $1200. I have not used this system in the past 7 years as I have had a proper paint booth with correct airflow.
I am offering this fresh air system for $500, this is not hobby grade junk, this is a professional fresh air system.
I will ship it via greyhound, it is small, but the compressor is heavy, shipping will probably be $70 or so (I am guessing, if you need a quote I will get one).
