Quadcopter Propellers

I have found out the hard way that the quality of propeller is very important when choosing one for the quads. I have used CF reinforced nylon ones with great success. They still need to be balanced but are very close. On the other hand I have tried the cheap HK ABS clone and have had 2 crashes because of them. They are too flexible and I suspect are causing too much vibration as the quad flys in FFF, thereby affecting the performance of the gyros on the board. It is fine with these props in a hover but as soon as you transition you can here a weird sound coming from the props and an amplified instability in decellerating descent. From what I can see, most boards have a bit of wobble in a descent but with these props my HK KK board goes into an uncontrollable occillation if rapidly transitioning to hover no matter how low the gains are turned down. Quite stable and controllable descents are the norm with the CF/nylon props. A good Canadian source for these is:

Re: Quadcopter Propellers

Thanks for this very valuable information, MJ. There's a flier here working on a copter with a camera experiencing severe vibration issues. I'll pass the information on as he isn't using OME props.

Re: Quadcopter Propellers

Balancing the props is a big thing with my quad-

I also found that my x525 frame had motor mounts that were too flexible, and that also caused vibration and affected the stabiliser gyros.

Thanks for the link to the source of your props. I think Buffy mentioned that he picked up some GF and Carbon props from New Generation hobby as well.
